A new tourism project at Ban Taklang has been organised with the assistance of Surin's Mahout Co-operative and the Surin Administration Office. Elephant shows are held in the village every weekend at Kahlang Elephant Centre. Tours of the village can be organised on request. Nakhon Phanom has established itself as the perfect venue for the Mekong River Triathlon, which is now recognised as a top international sporting event, primarily because it takes full advantage of the gorgeous scenery along the river, the 12th longest in the world. This year’s sixth annual Mekong River Triathlon takes place on March 15 and 16.
Organisers expect some 300 athletes, with international contestants likely to comprise 30 per cent of the total. Come tough, come hungry, come ready for a lot of fun.
